Sony a6000 lenses

Despite its age the Sony a6000 is still one of the best selling mirrorless cameras on Amazon * and was also my very first Sony mirrorless camera that I still own today.

The Sony a6000 features an APS-C sensor along with the Sony E-mount system for mounting the interchangeable lenses. So you can mount any of Sony’s E-mount lenses and also third-party E-mount lenses like Sigma or Voiglander.

If you are new to the Sony mirrorless system then you may not be aware that Sony makes two different types of E-mount lenses. The first being their APS-C E-mount lenses which are designed for cameras with an APS-C sensor just like the Sony a6000 series. Then they also make full-frame E-mount lenses which are designed for cameras like the full-frame Sony A7 series and the A9. The APS-C lenses have E in their name whilst the full-frame lenses have FE.


So if you are looking for a new lens for your Sony a6000, Sony’s APS-C (E) lenses should be your first choice. That said, you can still mount any of Sony’s full-frame (FE) E-mount lenses to the a6000 and they will work perfectly and are also supported. However, full-frame lenses are larger, heavier and a lot more expensive than APS-C lenses, so unless you are either planning to upgrade to a full-frame camera in the near future, or perhaps one of the full-frame lenses better suits your needs, then you will probably be better off sticking with the APS-C E-mount lenses.

I’m mainly going to include APS-C (E) E-mount lenses in this guide, but I will add a few full-frame (FE) E-mount lenses where I feel that the APS-C lens line-up is missing some key lenses.
Please beware that this lens guide does not include every single E-mount lens out there, just a selection of the best lenses based on reviews from Alpha Shooters around the globe as well as my own experience. Hopefully this should save you a lot of time if you are only interested in which are the best lenses for the a6000.
